Conference: The Role of Archives in Contemporary Creation

The Casa Planas Foundation is inviting applications to take part in the< Roundtable Discussion as part of the conference *The Role of Archives in Contemporary Creation*, a programme developed in collaboration with the Panorámico Festival, which since 2023 has been promoting opportunities for reflection, exchange and the presentation of projects linked to the artistic use of archives

In this edition, thanks to the support of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion, the session will focus on projects linked to the regions of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Occitania. The aim is to transform archives into spaces for research, experimentation and cultural production, fostering networks between creators and institutions working in the fields of memory, imagery and documentary heritage.

Who is it aimed at:

The call for applications is aimed at artists, researchers and cultural groups who develop projects related to the use, activation or reinterpretation of archives.
We accept projects currently underway or completed within the last four years, provided they offer an innovative approach to archiving and have a connection with the< Euroregional area (Catalonia, the Balearic Islands or Occitania).

Fees

Ten projects will be selected.
Each project will involve a 15-minute oral presentation with visual aids and will receive a fee of €150, as well as promotion via the festival’s and the organising bodies’ channels.

Dates

The  selected projects will be presented at an online session on 22 October 2026,  as part of the COSTA Observatory Conference.

Deadline: 30 April 2026

Organism | Art in Applied Critical Ecologies< is an experimental applied research programme initiated by TBA21 –Academy and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum . The initiative intertwines critical thinking, situated research and speculative practices through case studies developed in partnership with cultural, academic and civic organisations.

The organisation operates on the premise that practices in which artists drive interdisciplinary projects can constitute a form of infrastructural activism, capable of going beyond critical reflection to trigger tangible processes of territorial, social and ecological transformation.

To this end, the Organisation proposes to test methodologies and interconnections, collaborative practices and configurations of stakeholders across institutions, communities and governance frameworks, with a view to developing prototypes that can influence reality and its material conditions.

In collaboration with CRIGUST – Critical Geographies of Urbanisation, Sustainability and Touristification, University of the Balearic Islands.
